In 1990 the forest cover our planet 31.6%, but it decreased to 30.6% in 2015, and it will continue decreasing in the future, according to the web page “theguardian”. Although many IGOs and NGOs try to prevent the loss of the forest, still they cannot do so. As a result, the deforestation becomes a major concern to the world because we cannot control the causes of the deforestation, so how can we manage the future that may affected by the deforestation. Here are two causes and two effects of the deforestation.
The first cause of deforestation is the demand for basic needs. Human beings need shelter to survive, so they have to cut down the trees in order to build houses for the livelihood, on one hand. On the other hand, after having a shelter, human-beings need food to fulfill their stomach, hence they need land to do subsistence farming. Consequently, the forest has to be cut off in order to grow crops. Secondly, the demand for economic development. Some countries depend on the agricultural sector to help growth their economy. Cambodia is an agricultural product export-oriented country, for example. As an agricultural-based country, the demand for land to do farming also increase, thus the deforestation has become a problem. Like, agricultural-based countries, Industrial-based countries, which depend on manufacture products to grow their economy also cause deforestation. In order to develop its country, Malaysia decided to cut down the forest, then plant cash crops to meet the demand for manufacturing, palm oil trees, for instance. All in all, the demand for the basic need of human beings and the demand for the economic development of a country lead to deforestation.
After the discussion about the causes of the deforestation, we also have to look at the side effect of the deforestation to the world. First of all, the deforestation leads to climate change. Trees play very important role in absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere that caused by the pulluted wastes from factories or industries. According to NC State University, a mature tree can absorb 48 pounds of Carbon Dioxide per year. Therefore, when the trees lost, there will be no Carbon absorbers, which lead to climate change, especially the world temperature will be increased because CO2 remains and keep accumulating in the atmosphere. Secondly, National income will be decreased because of the losing non-trading service. Most countries develop their economy based on the service sectors, such as Africa and Brazil. Due to the fact that forest is a kind of nature tourist attraction, people nowadays enjoy living with nature. As a result, when there is no forest, then it will lead non-trading service decrease. Furthermore, Local people have no income because of no tourist. Finally, deforestation effect on the human being and the world by causing climate change and deduction national income.
To sum up, deforestation is not a natural phenomenon, it caused by two major factors which are the demands for the basic need of human being and demand in economic development. Unbelievably, the results from deforestation really do has negative impacts on the world in terms of climate change because of has no CO2 absorber and deduction national income because of losing non-trade service sector. Therefore, in order to make this world become a bless and comfortable place to live, we have to conserve our nature, especially forest by preventing fell the trees, protecting the existing trees, and planting more trees.
